Path of Silence: Telepresent Labyrinths

In Path of Silence, real-time video images from 11 different labyrinths throughout the world are brought together in a virtual 11-circuit labyrinth to create a collective sacred space, that can be experienced by multiple participants as a single labyrinth. A video camera records the activity within this collective labyrinth and sends it back out to each individual labyrinth location, thus completing the cycle. Like the journey of those who walk sacred labyrinths, traveling form the outside to the center and back again, each of the physical external sacred labyrinths travels into the center of the collective inner virtual labyrinth space and returns outward, completing the journey.

20 Sites n Years - Yet an other project by Artist Tom Phillips: "Every year on or around the same day (24th May - 2nd June) at the same time of day and from the same position a photograph is taken at each of the twenty locations on this map which is based on a circle of half a mile radius drawn around the place where the project was devised. It is hoped that this process will be carried on into the future and beyond the deviser's death for as long as the possibility of continuing and the will to undertake the task persist."

seven maps

When filmmaker/videoblogger Daniel Liss challenged himself to make 7 videos in 7 days,
he also challenged his online audience to collaborate with him in the process.
His daily assignments came from viewers of his videoblog who determined
where, about what and how he should make each video.

Each day, they posted an assignment and each day Daniel posted a video in response.
Then came praise and criticism in the comments of each day’s videoblog post.

The process took him miles from home, he told personal stories, invented new narratives,
and played more than a few tricks on his guiding/goading audience.

His first assignment - "Make a video about journeys, transportation, dislocation, confusion. This one is all about departures and arrivals."( i didn't find it his best assignment, he got much better later on :-), took him to this journy: departs New York (La Guardia) at 7:59am. arrives in Buffalo NY 9:20am. from there, Daniel takes a bus trip across to Niagra Falls.

For this video he was given the assignment: “Today, you are a local. Trick us into believing that you are a local.
Tell us a story about your history.” I liked this one, and his narrator voice telling the hallucinating story made me laugh add to that the beautiful images.

In the early 1990s painter Maria Yeliseyeva had a chance meeting with 12 children from Moscow Orphanage No. 103. FROM THAT HAS grown Maria's Children (www.mariaschildren.org), a painting program in which the orphans, working collaboratively under Yeliseyeva's direction, make strikingly beautiful murals. About 50 murals have been created, and dozens of children from eight orphanages in Moscow now work with her. Yeliseyeva is touring the United States with an exhibit of the murals to call attention to the plight of Russia's orphans - they are often shunned in their homeland - and to try to raise money for a transitional home for older children who must leave state institutions at the age of 16.

Bernard Pras a réalisé une installation in situ , un portrait,à la Compienga .Puis il a été invité à Galway en Irlande où il a réalisé le portrait de Tom Murphy (juin 2003), par l'alliance française de Lima au Pérou en 2003 , par la direction des affaires culturelles de la Ville de St Denis de la Réunion. Ancient Manuscripts from the Desert Libraries of Timbuktu.

Timbuktu, Mali, is the legendary city founded as a commercial center in West Africa nine hundred years ago. Today it is synonymous with the phrase "utterly remote," but this was not always so.

Situated on the edge of the Sahara Desert, Timbuktu was famous among the merchants of the Mediterranean basin as a market for obtaining the goods and products of Africa south of the desert.

For more than six hundred years, Timbuktu was a significant religious, cultural, and commercial center whose residents traveled throughout Asia, Africa, and Europe. Timbuktu was famous for educating important scholars who were well known throughout the Islamic world. Many individuals traveled to the city to acquire knowledge; others came to acquire wealth and political power.

These ancient manuscripts cover every aspect of human endeavor. The John and Ruby Lomax 1939 Southern States Recording Trip 'is a multiformat ethnographic field collection that includes nearly 700 sound recordings, as well as fieldnotes, dust jackets, street poems(read a song sung by a group of Afro American convicts, Clemens state farm, Brazoria, Texas, April 16, 1939), photos, and other manuscripts documenting a three-month, 6,502-mile trip through the southern United States. Beginning in Port Aransas, Texas, on March 31, 1939, and ending at the Library of Congress on June 14, 1939, John Avery Lomax, Honorary Consultant and Curator of the Archive of American Folk Song ,and his wife, Ruby Terrill Lomax, recorded approximately 25 hours of folk music from more than 300 performers. Oldoinyo Lengai, the sacred mountain of the Masai, towers 2,890 metres over the savannah in the Great Rift Valley, east Africa. The crater is filled with a lava that is unique in the world, with a high sodium and potassium content, and a temperature of only 550 degrees centigrade, rather than the usual 1,000 degrees. It glows slightly at night, whereas by day it resembles dark mud. When it has cooled, it turns white in a matter of days. Lengai’s mound is only green in the rainy season, being parched and yellow for most of the year.

I have got this "thing" with MOON issues lately

This Photo was taken in a trip across the Sinai by mr damon
it is a real photo. no photoshop manipulation was made other then the camera.

"It is real, and it is a manipulation of time and light. This is a time-lapse photo produced by simply leaving the shutter open -- here, for three hours -- while the Earth turns. Since the stars toward the north rotate around Polaris (the brightest streak toward the center), then that's what creates the spiral dome effect.
