"These pictures are intended for USAmerican women and others who may have never seen intact ("uncircumcised") penises before - or not known what they were looking at. "

This terracotta vase was made in eastern Greece (probably on the island of Rhodes) 2500 to 2550 years ago. Phallus vases are a rare and distinctive kind of archaic Greek pottery. They were used to store perfumed oils, presumably for erotic or medicinal purposes.

The reveller's small penis is typical. "...the artistic evidence implies that over-large genitals were considered aesthetically unpleasing by the Greeks and Romans. ...the ideal type of male beauty epitomised in classical sculpture, Greek and Roman, normally depicts genitals of somewhat less than average size...certainly never more."

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2006-06-16T16:10:23Z</dcterms:modified>

Fetish map

Maps are for those very few of you who visit my place, a Real Fetish.

I've tumbled today over a different kind of FETISH MAP, not exactly what i have in mind, when i think about my Fetish for maps, and i hope i don't offend any of you by posting it in here.

Pleasure can be a resource, and the penis as giver of pleasure, a nuptial gift.

By the middle of the Heian period (794-1185), Japan's great golden era of artistic development, Kokigami had become firmly established as a path to sensual enlightenment amongst the aristocratic classes. (But it was not until the late eighteenth century, when the price of paper fell, that it ceased to be the exclusive preserve of the rich and became popular with all strata of Japanese society).

Japanese aristocrats wrapped their penises in silks and ribbons and presented them to their wives as nuptial gifts. The practice of tsutsumi evolved into Kokigami, a highly sensual, intimate event in which the man wears a paper sculpture of an animal or mythical creature over his penis and presents it to his lover. Pleasure motivates human sexuality; sexual pleasure is an important mechanism for adapting specific behaviours that organize and shape human cultures as well as individual humans.

Nineteen hours after the eruption the Roman resort towns of Pompeii, Herculaneum and Stabiae were destroyed, buried beneath tons of ash and rock. They remained hidden for the next 1,700 years.

The secret room in the Naples Archaeological Museum, containing sexual artifacts from excavations at Pompeii and Herculaneum, has been closed to all but the very rich and influential for 200 years. But despite vociferous protest, it is now open to the public.

Japanese prints have long been admired by artists and collectors and their influence on painters was critical in the transformation of Western art towards the end of the nineteenth-century. These erotic images were used as sex manuals or 'pillow books' to inspire and instruct in the art of love.

Ukiyo-e are pictures of the floating world (ukiyo) - this world as opposed to the spirit world. The term describes the popular Japanese prints, of the daily life of the common man, that flourished during the Edo period (1600-1868). It came to mean pleasure-seeking images Artists inspired in the pleasure quarters of Edo (now Tokyo) produced shunga (spring pictures) or makura-e (pillow pictures) - romantically intimate, through to sexually explicit images used to inspire and instruct in the art of love. Inspiration for shunga images was derived in the 'pleasure quarters' of the capital city of Edo (now Tokyo) where the merchant classes foundfleeting pleasures.

In Japan the aesthetic aspect was primarily emphasized th ough the dress which had for centuries remained almost identical for both sexes. Sometimes the difference between a man and a woman were almost indistinguishable. Only in erotic pictures (shunga) the sexual differences are explicitly stressed in oversized and minutely depicted genitals. Other parts of body (with exception of face and legs) were usually concealed under exquisite folds of fabric.
